Meet Oppo Find 7, India’s First QHD Display Phone that Captures 50 MP Stills

QHD display is the next big thing in smartphones. Mobile manufacturers are betting on it in their upcoming flagships and race to deliver eye-popping displays has already begun- LG just released the much awaited G3 while Samsung and HTC are eyeing the market with upcoming Galaxy S5 Prime and HTC One M8 Prime.
Oppo was second in line (Vivo pioneered with Xplay 3S) to bring QHD to smartphone with Find 7. The 2K (2,560 x 1,440) display phone made the global debut in March this year and has now hit the Indian shelves. This makes Oppo the first smartphone maker to bring QHD display to India. With price pegged at 37,990 INR, Find 7 stacks up against top-end Android smartphones like Samsung S5, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2 aiming to surpass competition with a 2K (Quad HD) display and high-end specs.
Oppo is an underdog when compared to the likes of Samsung and LG, but its latest phone Find 7 packs in top-of-the-line features undercutting most of the top-end phones in the Indian market today. Apart from the 5.5 inch QHD screen mounted on aesthetically designed heat-proof metal chassis, Find 7 boasts of out-of-the-league features like rapid charging (letting you take a 30 minute call with just five minute charge or fill up drained battery in just half an hour), Touch-on-Lens technology, 13 megapixel camera with an ability to snap a 50 megapixel shot and compatibility with Indian 4G LTE networks (a feature offered by limited smartphones at the moment)

Oppo Find 7’s 13 megapixel rear camera is equipped with Sony’s 1/3.06-inch IMX214 CMOS sensor and a wide f/2.0 aperture great enough for low light photography. Although it may not appeal Pureview Lumia shooters, it will certainly tickle fancy of Android users with its capability to deliver clear 50-megapixel stills. Oppo has its latest image signal processor dubbed Pure Image 2.0 at work here. It’s a software feature that allows the 13 mega pixel camera to take 10 consecutive shots real quick, picking up the best four shots to combine into a 50 megapixel shot. Apart from the rear shooter, the phone houses a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper with BSI sensor and supports 4k video recording.
Under the hood, Find 7 is at par with its competitors offering quad-core Snapdragon 801chipset clocked at 2.5 GHz, the most powerful SOC in the market as of date. Other features include 3GB RAM coupled with 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded to 128GB using a microSD card.
The phone runs on tweaked Android Jelly Bean 4.3 clad in Oppo’s own ColorOS UI, something many smartphone users would smirk at given that Android’s latest version of OS is almost a norm these days, not to mention bloatware and lingering updates that are part and parcel of tweaked UIs. Just like Samsung’s Touchwiz, Gionee’s Amigo, Oppo’s ColorOS is sure to hinder user experience with its outdated operating system and deep tweaks. As far as fuelling is concerned, Oppo seems to have tackled the issue of battery drain faced by most high-end smartphone users. The phone comes with a 3,000mAh battery backed by VOOC flash charging that not only charges real quick but drains slower than conventional batteries.
Despite such overwhelming specs, the question remains. Will Oppo be able to kill competition with a display that’s hardly an upgrade in user experience? Unless your eyesight is better than 20/20, you can hardly tell the difference when the pixel density of a screen shoots beyond 320 ppi. Oppo Find 7’s 2k display with a pixel density of 534 pixels per inch looks great on paper, but is nothing more than a bragging right in practice. And then, it is unlikely that Indian buyers will be willing to shell out 37,990 INR for a lesser known brand like Oppo, which hardly has the authority and wide customer support enjoyed by its rivals.
Find 7 also has its cheaper variant Find 7a available for 31,990 INR. However, If 2k display is your choice, Find 7 is the best buy until LG G3 reaches India.
