Motorola India after selling its Moto-range of devices in India exclusively via Flipkart for over a year has finally decided to expand their availability. The Lenovo-owned company has announced that the Moto devices can now be purchased via select Airtel stores alongside new e-commerce retail partners Snapdeal and Amazon.
This means that Motorola devices will no longer be exclusively available in India via Flipkart, with rival e-commerce sites now authorised to sell the Moto-range of devices. The company on Wednesday in a press statement confirmed that it will be offering the Moto devices through its distribution partner Brightstar India.
The Moto E (Gen 2) 4G will be one of the first devices to be available via select Airtel stores across the country. Amazon India and Snapdeal, on the other hand, will start selling the Moto E (Gen 2) and Moto E (Gen 2) 4G smartphone starting Friday.
Commenting on the announcement, Amit Boni, General Manager, Motorola Mobility India said, "Responding to growing demand from our consumers we have made a strategic move of increasing the availability of our portfolio across offline and multiple online shopping platforms. To start off, we will be available at select stores for our consumers to experience and purchase the device. Consumers are at the heart of whatever we do and we will leave no stone unturned to enhance their buying experiences."
The company at the Moto X Play launch earlier this month had announced that it sold 5.6 million Motorola smartphones via Flipkart since it re-entered the Indian market in February 2014. The company had in January this year announced a figure or 3 million, making it roughly 2.6 million devices in 7-8 months.

IOS 9,the latest and greatest version of Apple's operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, is now available for download. If you've been wondering whether your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is eligible for the update, and/ or how you can download iOS 9 on your Apple device, or how to take a backup of all data on your device before you install iOS 9, we have you covered.
Will my iOS device get iOS 9?
If your device is running iOS 8, then it is eligible for the iOS 9 upgrade. This year Apple hasn't discontinued OS upgrade support for any devices, but some features such as split-screen multitasking for iPad will only work on the newest devices. The following iOS devices will get the iOS 9 update. The iPad Pro, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPad mini 4 will ship with iOS 9 pre-installed, and hence don't appear in this list.
Backup
While the iOS update process is usually very smooth, it's still recommended that you take a backup to ensure that your data is safe. Here's how.
You can do this via iCloud or iTunes, but we recommend that you do it via iTunes, because it doesn't require an Internet connection. Here are the steps to take a backup of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
1) Connect your iOS device to a PC or Mac.
2) Open iTunes.
3) On the top-left (to the left of My Music), click the icon that represents your iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod touch icon).
4) Under Backups, you will see the sub-head Manually Back Up and Restore.
5) Click Back Up Now to start backing up your iOS device.
Once essential data from the default apps has been backed up, iTunes will ask you if you want to transfer purchases. This backs up all apps installed on your phone, along with data downloaded within those apps. To do this, you will have to sign in with your Apple ID.
If you don't have access to a computer, then you can use iCloud Backup. Only 5GB is free and you'll have to pay Rs. 60 per month for additional storage on iCloud.
1) To start backing up, on your iOS device, go to Settings > iCloud > Backup.
2) Turn on the switch marked iCloud Backup. You'll get a warning telling you that your iPhone will not back up to your computer automatically. Tap Ok.
3) Once iCloud Backup is on, tap Back Up Now. This will start backing up your data to iCloud.
Wait for the backup to finish before proceeding further. You should see the Last Backup time (which should appear right below Back Up Now) correspond to something recent once the backup is completed.

Download and install iOS 9
With the backup complete, you can quickly install iOS 9 on your Apple device. Once again, you can do this directly via your iOS device or iTunes. In this case we recommend doing this via the device itself. The iOS 9 update is big download, but the amount of free space required on your device is lesser than iOS 8, so there are unlikely to be troubles like last year when you are installing iOS 9. Here's how to get the iOS 9 update over-the-air (OYA)
1) On your iOS device, make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi (you can't download updates over mobile data) and plug it in to a power source - the second step is not mandatory, but recommended to make sure you don't run out of battery midway through the process.
2) Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
3) On this screen, you'll see a message telling you that iOS 9 is available. Tap Download and Install. Now the device will begin downloading the update.
4) Once the download is complete, you'll see a pop-up asking if you'd like to install the update. TapInstall. That's it. When the update is installed, your iPhone will restart.
Here's how to download iOS 9 via iTunes
In case you get an error that there enough free space to install the update on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or if you want to install the update on multiple devices of the same kind (e.g. the three iPhone 6 models in your family), then you are better off installing iOS 9 via iTunes by following these steps:
1) Open iTunes on your PC or Mac.
2) Connect the iOS device to your computer. In iTunes, select your device icon on the bar at the top.
3) Now click on the Summary tab and click Check for Update.
4) To download and install iOS 9, click Download and Update.
Once the install is completed, follow instructions on-screen and you can start using iOS 9.
There are several hidden features in iOS 9 that are very useful. There are nifty features to improve battery life, and tweaks that improve the security of you iOS device, along with small tweaks like the Bluetooth battery widget and reorganised folders on iPads that make the experience of using your device that little bit better. Here is a list of features that you may not have spotted on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
1) Swipe right to invoke Spotlight
Spotlight has been reinstated to a screen of its own in iOS 9. Before iOS 7, Spotlight could be invoked by swiping right from (moving to the left of) the main home screen, but this hasn't been the case with recent iOS versions. Here you will also see Siri's suggestions for apps and contacts based on what apps you use and who you contact at any given time of the day. Note that you can also use Spotlight search by swiping downwards on the home screen, as in iOS 7 and iOS 8.
2) Settings search
The settings app is one of the more crowded and confusing parts of your iPhone or iPad - but now, you don't need to know where every setting is. The search bar at the top of the Settings app lets you quickly find whatever options you were looking for, to easily make the changes you want.

3) Low power mode
Running out of charge? Go to Settings > Battery and enable Low Power Mode. This disables certain visual effects, automatic downloads (apps, songs, etc), mail fetch, and background app refresh to improve battery life.
ios_9_low_power_mode.jpg
4) App screen time
Go to Settings > Battery and tap the clock icon under Battery Usage. This will give you detailed app usage information, and shows you how much time an app has been active, or running in the background. If an app is using a lot of battery while in the background, removing it could solve some battery woes.
ios_9_battery_details.jpg
5) Batteries widget
Open the Notification Centre and add the Battery widget. You will see the battery level of your iPhone, and also all paired devices like Apple Watch or Bluetooth headphones. It also has a tiny icon there to let you know if the device is charging.
6) Photo folders
The photo album on your iPhone or iPad has always been a slightly cluttered mess, but iOS 9 has brought some changes that could help. Open the Photos app and tap Albums. You'll see that all your photos are now neatly categorised into folders, such as Selfies, Panoramas, Screenshots, and more.
ios_9_photo_folders.jpg
7) iPad folders
If you've created folders on the home screen of you iPad, you will notice that there are four apps per row in each folder, and four rows, as opposed to the three by three grid in iOS 8. That means that each page of a folder can now show 16 apps at a time, which is handy as you won't have to keep hunting for apps hidden away behind pages now. This is just one of the many iPad-specific tweaks in iOS 9.
8) Keyboard shortcuts
QuickType keyboard on the iPad has several nifty features in iOS 9. An entire shortcut bar at the top lets you quickly add attachments, formatting, and has nice undo and redo buttons too. Swiping on the keyboard with two fingers unveils a trackpad mode. This trackpad feature comes to iPads, and the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus (via 3D Touch). If you plug in a Bluetooth keyboard accessory, you can use quite a few shortcuts such as command-N to create a new document in certain apps such as Pages. Third-party apps like Microsoft Outlook have also been updated to make use of this feature.
9) Return to app
Moving between apps is a lot easier on iOS 9. If an app opens a link in another app, you'll be able to get back to the first app without needing the app switcher. For example, if you open a link in the Messages app, it will open in Safari. To return to the app, just tap the Back to Messages link on the top-left.
10) Custom numeric passcode
If you don't want to set a six-digit passcode or a regular password comprising alphabets and numbers, you can create a custom numeric passcode in iOS 9. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Change Passcode. Tap Passcode Options and select Custom Numeric Code.
ios_9_custom_numeric_code.jpg
11) Spotlight calculator
Spotlight search can now search within third-party apps, and doubles up as your calculator and currency converter. Just type $600 in the search bar and Spotlight will show the equivalent rupee amount right there. You can also perform basic calculations using the search bar.
ios_9_currency_convert.jpg
12) Quickly select photos
Open the Photos app, go to the album of your choice and tap Select on the top-right. Now just slide your finger over a bunch of photos and you will see that they're all getting selected. This is much faster than manually tapping each photo to select it.
ios_9_select_photos.jpg
13) Contextual Siri search
You can ask Siri to remind you about something tomorrow or to show you photos taken in Mumbai. Siri has now become a lot better at processing natural language.
14) Who's calling?
Getting a call from an unknown number? Siri will check your emails to try and show you the name of the contact.
15) Better Reader mode
Safari's inbuilt reader mode makes it easier to read articles. Once you enable it you can tap and hold the AA icon on the top-right to see several new iBooks-like options such as changing the fonts and night mode.
16) Safari share sheet
In Safari tap the share icon and you will see several new options. For example, you can now save webpages to pdf via iBooks in two taps. Also new in the share sheet are extensions that let you request the desktop version of any site and find words on the webpage. You can also save links to the new and improved Notes app or add them to the Reminders app directly.

17) Paste and go
Copy a URL and tap and hold the address bar in Safari. This will reveal a Paste and Go button. If you copy any other search term, this button changes to Paste and Search.
ios_9_paste_search.jpg
18) Grouped notifications
You still can't dismiss all notifications at once, but you can now dismiss all notifications from any one day at once. This is because iOS 9 groups notifications by date rather than by app. You can toggle this via Settings > Notifications > Group By App.
19) Mail improvements
The Mail app now lets you add markup to any photo. Select any photo you've attached, tap and hold, press the > button and tap Markup. Here you can annotate the picture and even add a digital signature.
20) Safari reload
Safari's reload page button on the top-right hides a couple of interesting features. Open any webpage and tap and hold the reload button. Now you will see two options slide up - Request Desktop Site and Reload Without Content Blockers. The second one will appear only if you are using a content blocker app.

Apple's iOS 9 includes several new iPad-specific features including Split View multitasking. This is a feature that allows you to run two apps side by side, in a split screen view. This is the first time that true multitasking is available on the iPad, which will please productivity enthusiasts.
We should point out that Split View is available only on the iPad Air 2, iPad Pro and iPad mini 4 at the moment. With Split View though, you can do something like researching a topic while reading a book, or writing a mail while also skimming through Twitter on the side. Here's how you can enable Split View.
1) Open an app that supports Split View. Most built-in apps such as Mail and Notes do. Some third-party apps such as Twitter have also added support for this, and more will very likely do so in the coming days.
2) Swipe from the right edge of the screen. This will open an app in one-third of the screen.
3) Swipe downwards from the top on the right hand side (where the secondary app is open). This will reveal a list of apps.
4) Pick the app you want to run in Split View (such as Safari or Twitter).
5) Now pull the black bar towards the centre of the iPad's screen. You can move the dividing bar to resize the apps.
You can also multitask using the picture-in-picture mode on iOS 9 if you are using iPad Pro, iPad Air or later, and iPad mini 2 or later.
1) To use this open the Videos app and start playing any video.
2) Now tap the picture-in-picture button (see screenshot below) on the bottom pane or simply press the home button while the video is being played.
apple_ios_9_picture_in_picture_videos_app.jpg
3) Now the video will start playing in a small window and you can move it around the screen while you continue to use other apps.
You can even resize it to make it bigger or smaller, and even temporarily slide it off the screen so only a small part is visible. This is useful if you want to take notes or browse the Internet while watching videos.

Apple Watch's new software brings useful enhancements, though it's not the same as getting a new watch.
That same watch can now do more. For the first time, non-Apple apps are able to display video and use the watch's sensors and controls. In addition, the watch now works with Wi-Fi, extending how far you can go without a phone with you. These enhancements address many of my initial frustrations with the watch.
But the hardware itself isn't changing, apart for some new color and band choices. Promised battery life remains at 18 hours, something Apple will need to address in upcoming generations given that rival smartwatches are promising more. For now, you might need to buy a spare charger to give the watch a power boost while you're sitting at work. Even 15 minutes will help.
The watchOS 2 update for Apple Watch arrived Monday, delayed by nearly a week as Apple fixed an unspecified bug.
The update comes as Apple Inc. pulled several Chinese apps, including the popular WeChat, from its app store after third-party developers were tricked into inserting malicious code into their apps. The malicious software isn't believed to affect the watch's functionality, though it could collect data on the tethered iPhone and send them to remote servers, according to security experts. Users should delete any Chinese apps they got or updated recently from their iPhones and iPads and get new versions from the app store once they are available.
As for the watch update, first make sure your phone has the latest software, iOS 9. Then go to the Apple Watch app on the phone, choose "General" and then "Software Update."
Apple's own fitness apps are smarter with Monday's update:
Before, the watch displayed only current pace during your runs. I've found that to swing wildly on all sorts of fitness trackers, including Apple Watch. During my most recent marathon, my usually reliable Garmin GPS had me going faster than two minutes a mile at one point - more than three times as fast as the winners. Average pace is more useful, as it factors in the occasional errant readings. The watch finally lets you choose that instead, though you need to dig in the settings on the phone to change that.
The watch also tracks mile-by-mile splits for the first time, matching what many phone apps, the Fitbit Surge (Review) and the Microsoft Band offer. It's not the same as choosing your own splits manually, such as after each lap on a track. But it's progress. The splits aren't displayed on the watch, though, but in the Activity app on the phone after you sync your workout.
The nagging reminders that you need to stand up if you've been sitting at your desk for too long can be paused if you happen to be on a flight or a road trip. And it's clearer whether you've already earned credit for standing during a given hour. A blinking blue bar appears in the Activity app on the watch if you haven't yet.
apple_watch_os2_faces_screenshot.jpg
You also have more choices for watch faces: Choose photos of your kids or friends to appear on the main watch screen. Or choose time-lapse video from one of six cities. At 10 p.m. your time, you see what Paris or Shanghai looks like at 10 p.m. local time. It's cheaper than a flight. When charging, the watch functions like an alarm clock on a nightstand.
Beyond that, the watch update lets you reply to email and set more than 12 friends as favorites.
Many improvements are still pending, however. Apple apps have had the ability to run natively on the watch, meaning they can access sensors and controls directly and aren't merely extensions of phone apps. Now, non-Apple apps have that capability. But those apps are just starting to appear. For instance, GoPro will let you use the watch as a viewfinder for its camera, but not for a few more months.
Even with the update, the Apple Watch still isn't a must-have gadget for everyone, the way smartphones have become. But Apple is headed in the right direction, and the update should improve the experience for those who do get the watch now.
