Google Wallet mobile payment service, Google Offers announced
Google Wallet mobile payment service, Google Offers announced
Also announced today is Google Offers, which will deliver an "offer of the day" to your inbox, and let you seek out other offers from retailers. Of course, it also ties into Google Wallet, and you'll be able to both redeem offers and receive loyalty rewards from retailers with just a tap of your NFC-enabled phone. As far as Google is concerned, however, mobile payments and special offers are just the beginning for Google Wallet. It eventually sees everything from boarding passes to tickets to IDs (and even keys) being stored on your phone. Not surprisingly, all of this is US-only for the time being, but Google is apparently working on international expansion. Head on past the break for a video and the complete press release.
Google Wallet vending on Nexus S hands-on
Google Wallet vending on Nexus S hands-on
We just got done watching the unveil of how Google is going to revolutionize the way you pay for denim shorts at the mall, and we just got to try it in a slightly different way -- buying a Coke out of a vending machine. The process is as easy as can be: just select your beverage and, when you're ready to pay, swipe your phone. In a few seconds out pops your frosty beverage and somewhere Santa Claus laughs merrily. It's retail bliss and a lot easier than fishing filthy coins out of your skinny jeans. Check out the short video after the break -- the break that refreshes.

Tablet Version Of Windows 8 To Be Shown In June?
There is an All Things Digital D9 conference coming up next month which apparently will mark the arrival of Microsoft's new tablet OS. Steven Sinofsky, President, Windows and Windows Live Division, could be demonstrating the key aspects of the OS and at the same time give us some idea about what to expect.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that rumors about Windows' newest iteration are making rounds on the internet. Previously, some leaked UI screenshots of the Windows 8's desktop version were spotted, but this is the first time that we're looking at a tablet edition of the OS.
A few years ago, Windows based tablets weren't as rare as they are now. Tablets like the iPad and other Android andwebOS-based tablets have certainly driven them out in a big way. But could this new set of Windows based tablets pave the way for what looks like a year of tablets? Well, given the market-share of Microsoft Windows, we think it could be quite a catch, provided the tablets are priced appropriately. Let's hope for a good tablet, because we Indians are very much comfortable with Windows' usability.
Toshiba To Launch New Android Tablet Soon
Powered by a 1 GHz Dual core Tegra 2 processor, this 10.1-inch tablet sports a capacitive multitouch screen with pixel dimensions of 1280x800. This screen features Toshiba Adaptive Display technology, which adjusts the brightness and contrast to suit the surrounding lighting conditions; practically allowing you to use this tablet even in sunny weather. Adobe Flash support with hardware acceleration is present for an enriching web-browsing experience.
Along with a 5 Megapixel primary camera featuring Auto-focus, Digital zoom, and 720p video capture at the back, there is also a 2 Megapixel HD camera at the front for video calling. The HDMI output lets you hook up this tablet to your HDTV and watch movies on the big screen in 1080p (Full HD) resolution. Thanks to the Tablet's Resolution+ technology incorporated in this device, even Standard Definition (SD) video content is upscaled neatly with no details lost.
The tablet features, a GPS, an accelerometer and a digital compass helping pinpoint its exact location and motion. Even the battery is user-replaceable, which is something every consumer wants, but no tablet manufacturer obliges. This allows you to carry a second battery pack and replace the battery on-the-go if the tablet runs out of juice. Connectivity is taken care of by Wi-Fi (with hotspot capability), USB 2.0 (with one full and one mini-USB port) and Bluetooth. No mention is made of GSM connectivity, so that probably won't be available in this version at least. An SD memory card slot is also provided to augment the 32 GB internal on-board memory.
Toshiba has been delaying the launch of this tablet, and may further delay it to the third quarter of this calendar year. The launch date is therefore not clear. We must note that Toshiba has already launched the Portege 12-inch tablet in India, so we expect this to follow suit soon enough.
Aircel to Launch iPhone 4 In India on May 27
Director of Aircel, Mr. Sandip Das said, "We are very proud to bring iPhone 4 to Aircel customers in India. We always endeavour to bring to our consumers a world class experience and offer the best in innovation and service. With a robust roll out of Aircel' s 3G services in 13 circles across India, the launch of iPhone 4 will allow our consumers to truly savour the 3G experience. With our incredible new price plans, we aim to make iPhone more affordable than ever."
It is very frustrating that our country is getting the handset so late when other countries around the world are anticipating its successor's arrival. However, it is commendable that Aircel is bringing the device to the country, but we fear if it may be a little too late. And here's the big surprise, the 16 GB model of the iPhone 4 will start from a whopping Rs.34,500, while the 32 GB model will cost Rs.40,900. I wonder as to how a person can call this affordable. But I guess that's how Aircel likes to market the new device. The handset will be up for grabs from this Friday at select Aircel retail outlets.
The Postpaid plans are as follows:
And now for the Prepaid plans:

Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670 Review
Smartphones are called so, because unlike their simpler counterparts, they allow you to install applications that expand the functionality of the handset and allow you to switch seamlessly between them just as you would on a PC. Smartphones were primarily premium handsets because they contained high performance hardware that made it difficult to price them lower. Recently, however, manufacturers are coming up with cheaper smartphones, aided by free open source operating systems such as Android which can run on a variety of hardware. These phones often stretch the definition of the term 'smartphone' and makes one wonder whether simply having the features is enough or is the device also defined by the way the it performs.
Today we are reviewing one such phone from Samsung - the Galaxy Fit S5670. It might seem like one of Samsung's many low-end touchscreen phones, but this one is running Android. We'll find out if it is worthy of the title smartphone or is it just trying ride the Android juggernaut.

Right from the time the iPad was launched, there have been debates about whether the iPad would replace the, then popular, netbook phenomenon. At that time, the proponents and opponents was fairly equal. That was then, but today we are clearly in a position to state that the iPad is indeed an entertainment gadget worthy of doubling as a productivity device and can do almost everything that you can do using a netbook. To prove our point, we have enlisted a few apps that will show off ways in which the iPad's productivity potential can be realised.

Interested buyers may also pre-order their phones via Samsung's website from May 26 onwards for Rs.1000. It seems like Vodafone customers will have the privilege of getting the device first, followed by other Samsung retail outlets in India where the device will be available from June 9. Vodafone users will also be offered 6 GB of free data usage (1 GB per month for a span of 6 months).
This handset is the successor to the equally popular Samsung Galaxy S, which sold around 10 million units worldwide.
